The Black River Trading Company is pleased to announce the publication of its third children's book, Llama on the Lam. For fans of our first book, Whoop for Joy a Christmas Wish, the retired thoroughbred racehorse joins the fun when he gets a new barn buddy with the arrival of the “rescued” llama. Also featured in the story is Horses’ Haven, a South Lyon, Michigan horse animal rescue organization, that figured prominently in the rescue and placement of the real llama in the story.
Oakland University journalism professor Jane Briggs-Bunting has again teamed up with retired Detroit Free Press artist Jon Buechel in this heartwarming tail based on the true story of a runaway llama. The 96-page book has 11 full color illustration by Buechel.
Llama on the Lam is a fictional account of a true tale of a runaway llama that becomes the focus of a chase by the authorities assisted by five bright neighborhood youngsters. The chase and capture of the llama tightens the bond between three of the friends, one with Muscular Dystrophy. The captured llama is taken in by Horses' Haven, a Michigan animal rescue group located in South Lyon, Michigan.
The book is being sold by quality book stores and online at www.amazon.com. Following the Black River Trading Co. tradition, a percentage of the net profits on the book will be donated to Horses' Haven's rescue and care operation and to organizations that help children with special needs.
